    Seastex Freestanding Acoustic Byssus Core (ABC) Panels combine our circular byssus core with precision-fabricated aluminium frames and stainless-steel supports to provide flexible acoustic solutions without permanent wall or ceiling installation.

    Designed and fabricated in Glasgow, Scotland, the panels harness the natural sound-absorbing properties of byssus: a renewable marine fibre recovered from the mussel industry and transformed through Seastex's proprietary cleaning and processing technologies.

    Available with either our low-profile V-Feet Base or elevated Single-Post Stand, the freestanding system allows acoustic treatment to become a flexible part of the interior architecture.

  • Low-Profile Freestanding Acoustic Treatment

    The V-Feet ABC Panel provides a flexible, freestanding acoustic solution with minimal visual interruption.

    The standard configuration features a 40 × 120 × 8 cm Acoustic Byssus Core panel supported by two 10 cm high stainless-steel V-Feet Bases. The feet can be positioned along the aluminium frame, allowing their placement to be adapted to the panel and surrounding interior.

    Ideal for introducing acoustic absorption where permanent wall or ceiling installation is not desirable, the system can be repositioned as spaces and requirements evolve.

  • Elevated Acoustic Performance

    The Single-Post ABC Panel elevates the Acoustic Byssus Core above floor level, creating a freestanding architectural element that combines acoustic treatment with a refined, minimal support system.

    The standard configuration features a 40 × 120 × 8 cm Acoustic Byssus Core panel mounted on a 60 cm high stainless-steel Single-Post Stand with a 35 cm diameter base plate.

    The elevated format provides greater freedom when integrating acoustic treatment into interiors and can be customised in response to the proportions, layout and design requirements of a project.

  • ABC Panels can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics between 0.7 and 3 mm in thickness, allowing the acoustic system to be coordinated with the wider interior design scheme. We recommend natural fabrics, recycled-content textiles and materials with low synthetic content wherever possible.

    Our recommended standard upholstery is Camira Main Line Flax, composed of 75% virgin wool and 25% flax. Alternative specified fabrics can be evaluated by Seastex for compatibility with our fabric-fix system.

  • Our Acoustic Byssus Core begins with mussels cultivated in the coastal waters of Scotland. During mussel processing, the byssus fibres are removed as an inedible by-product that would otherwise have no value.

    Seastex recovers this natural resource through its network of Scottish mussel farming partners and transforms it in Glasgow using proprietary cleaning and processing technologies.

    The resulting byssus fibres become the core of our acoustic products, creating a direct material journey from Scottish aquaculture to contemporary interior architecture and keeping a valuable biological resource in circulation.
