Our BioLab analyses and documents feedstock characteristics, builds material datasets and establishes acceptance criteria to support consistent processing and traceability. This knowledge allows Seastex to understand variation within a biological resource and continuously improve how it is recovered and processed.

    The BioLab works alongside Byssus Tech to understand how cleaning, drying, processing and preparation influence the characteristics of the resulting material. Through testing, characterisation and iterative R&D, we develop and optimise byssus in different formats - from natural and milled fibres to powders - according to the requirements of downstream applications.

  • BUILDING CONSISTENCY INTO A NATURAL MATERIAL.

    Commercial markets require repeatable quality. Our BioLab establishes the quality control and quality assurance procedures used throughout production, including batch monitoring, specifications, documentation and traceability. Where specialist or accredited analysis is required, we coordinate external testing to independently assess material composition, safety and performance.

    Our work continues beyond the production of a feedstock. The BioLab supports the assessment and validation of byssus across applications including cosmetics, construction, and advanced materials.
