Our circular business model

In-house research has revealed promising results regarding the extensive applicability of byssus when utilised as a non-woven fibre. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have developed a recycling process that allows us to unlock the full potential of byssus fibers. During this stage, byssus cores retained from old products are processed to seamlessly integrate into new products, extending the active life of byssus indefinitely. Through our novel recycling process, we contribute to a more circular and eco-friendly economy.

If you find that a Seastex product has reached the end of its usable life and you plan to refurbish the interior where our products are placed, please do not hesitate to contact us. As a part of our circular business model, we offer a free collection service for our products and are committed to compensating you for the byssus recovered, based on their weight. The compensation price will vary depending on the condition of the byssus. This approach not only ensures a seamless disposal process but also contributes to our goal of keeping byssus into circulation, minimising their impact on the environment. We prioritise sustainability and the responsible management of our products.

Due to its unique properties, Byssus offers two efficient forms of recycling

Primary closed loop system :

Using specialised machinery, the byssus panels undergo a series of steps to be transformed back into a raw material. Through this recycling process, the byssus panels are given a new lease on life, as they are transformed into products that holds the same economic worth.

Secondary open loop system :

Here, defective byssus cores serves as a versatile foundation for industrial applications that do not require high acoustic standards such as insulation materials. These insulation products will be recycled again after their life cycle ends.
