OPEN POSITIONS

  • The Byssus Technician is a core production role at Seastex, responsible for operating our proprietary byssus-processing technology, manufacturing byssus-based products, and preparing finished goods for shipment to clients. This role sits at the intersection of machine operation, material handling, product assembly, and quality execution.

You will be trained directly by the CEO on Seastex’s unique technology and processes. The role requires technical insight, precision, creativity, and a strong sense of ownership. Unlike narrow factory roles, this position spans the full production cycle: from raw fibre processing to finished panels and powders produced to client specifications.

  • As an Electrical Engineer at Seastex, you will play a critical role in advancing our proprietary byssus-processing technology from TRL7 to TRL9, ensuring that all electrical systems are designed, installed, and validated to meet industrial performance, safety, and compliance standards for deployment in the UK and internationally.

This is a hands-on industrial engineering role, with approximately 30% office-based work focused on electrical system design, specification, documentation, and collaboration with mechanical engineers, and 70% practical, on-site work installing, wiring, testing, and commissioning electrical components on prototype and production-ready machinery.

You will work closely with the Mechanical Engineering team to ensure that motors, drives, sensors, control panels, safety circuits, and operator interfaces are correctly specified for mechanical loads, forces, processing requirements, and duty cycles. You will also support the transition from prototype builds through industrial validation to TRL9, capturing all technical data, lessons learned, and best practices so systems can be reliably replicated as Seastex scales production in the coming years.

This role is ideal for an electrical engineer who enjoys building real machines, solving integration challenges, and taking ownership of electrical systems from early prototype through to industrial deployment.

  • As a Feedstock Sorter at Seastex, you play a vital role at the very start of our circular production process. You will be responsible for separating mussel byssus fibres from other materials within incoming aquaculture feedstock and carrying out initial cleaning steps. This work directly enables the production of sustainable acoustic materials and cosmetic ingredients.

This is a hands-on, physical role suited to people who enjoy practical work, routine with purpose, and contributing to an environmentally positive mission. No prior experience or formal education is required, as full training is provided.

  • We are seeking a meticulous, technically strong Laboratory Technician to support our quality control, quality assurance, analytical workflows, and R&D verification activities.

You will support day-to-day analytical operations, manage in-house testing, interface with external accredited labs for certification, and ensure that all material outputs meet the exacting performance, safety, and regulatory requirements for construction and cosmetic markets. The role also involves supporting collaborative projects with academic partners in Scotland and England.

This role demands a strong background in protein analysis, fibre chemistry, laboratory best practices, and a hands-on approach to method development, documentation, and traceability.

  • As a Mechanical Engineer (Machinery Design & Industrialisation) at Seastex, you will play a central role in advancing our proprietary byssus-processing technology from TRL7 to TRL9, preparing it for safe, repeatable industrial deployment in the UK and internationally.

This is a design-led role (approximately 80%), focused on developing, refining, and documenting complex mechanical systems using CAD software (primarily Rhino, though experience with comparable CAD platforms is acceptable). The remaining 20% of the role is hands-on, supporting workshop builds, troubleshooting, and guiding technicians during assembly and commissioning.

You will work directly with the CEO, who designed and hand-built the first-generation prototype machinery, and collaborate closely with electrical engineering, operations, and external fabrication partners. In the early phase, much of the success of this role will depend on your ability to take full ownership of mechanical design decisions and translate prototypes into robust, safe, cost-efficient industrial systems.

This is not a greenfield concept role, nor is it a maintenance position. You will be developing first-of-a-kind machinery based on an existing TRL7 system, improving reliability, maintenance, safety, manufacturability, and compliance - with the expectation that your work will later be replicated across multiple international production sites.

  • As a Mechanical Technician, you will play a critical role in physically assembling, integrating, and preparing Seastex’s proprietary machinery for pilot and industrial deployment.

Approximately 90% of your time will be spent on clean, precision assembly of machines designed by our mechanical engineers. The remaining 10% will be dedicated to structured briefings, learning sessions, and feedback loops with engineers, where your practical insight will help improve design-for-assembly, reliability, and maintainability.

This is a clean assembly environment: components arrive machined, finished, and ready for integration into food- and textile-grade equipment. The role demands technical precision, physical capability, excellent workshop discipline, and the confidence to flag assembly challenges early and constructively.

  • We are looking for a Sales & Business Developer who can operate across partnerships, sales, licensing, pricing and go-to-market strategy in an early-stage environment. This role is both strategic and deeply operational: you will shape how Seastex enters and scales multiple markets while also closing commercial deals yourself.

You will work directly with the Founder/CEO and technical team, translating a complex deep-tech platform into clear value propositions for architects, cosmetic formulators, industrial partners and future machinery customers.

  • Seastex is seeking a highly organised, discreet, and proactive Office & Studio Manager, who will also act as Personal Assistant to the CEO. This is a pivotal role at the heart of the company, ensuring smooth daily operations across administration, HR, finance coordination, and workplace management while supporting the CEO.

Unlike a traditional PA role, this position requires someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and thrives in an early-stage environment where systems are still being built. You will be a trusted partner to the CEO, a key point of contact for staff and external stakeholders, and a stabilising force that enables the wider team to operate efficiently.
