Byssus Insulation & Acoustics

Excellent heat retention.

During the development of the acoustic aspect of byssus fibres, we made an intriguing discovery. It was found that our production process resulted in compressed fibres that had the unique ability to retain heat for an extended period. This revelation was remarkable as it opened up a new application for our compressed byssus cores. With the ever-growing need for sustainable solutions in the construction industry, we realised that our compressed byssus cores could be utilised as an insulation material in the build environment. This breakthrough not only addresses the pressing need for sustainable alternatives but also offers improved thermal efficiency, making it a truly innovative and eco-friendly choice for insulation purposes.

The concept of embodied energy, which refers to the amount of energy consumed during the manufacturing process, is also emphasised when considering natural materials. By opting for materials with low embodied energy, we can reduce the build-environments carbon footprint and minimise the overall environmental impact. Therefore, the shift towards natural materials reflects a growing awareness of the need to prioritise environmentally-friendly alternatives for a healthier and more sustainable future.
